Skill in the use of the personal computer (PC) has evolved from a luxury to a necessity over
the past decade. The cost of ownership of a PC has plummeted during his same time period. However,
many people of all ages, most school systems, and many community service oriented non-proft corporations still find this
cost beyond their means to meet their personal or corporate objectives. The SMARTCO's recycling
program provides the opportunity to achieve these objectives and to enhance the computer literacy of
our customers and their clients.
SMARTCO believes that every student should have quick access to and training in the use of the
personal computer. By donating computers to schools, SMARTCO provides students at every grade level - from
elementary through high school - with a greater opportunity to gain computer related skills.
SMARTCO's FAST project has provided equipment to over 250 eligible non-profit corporations. Our
donation of PCs to eligible 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporations provides these agencies with sorely
needed equipment to train their client base. As a result, nonprofit corporations within our revitalization
areas are better able to meet their goals by providing skills training in computer repair and operation
to include:
Tutoring assistance for home schooling.
Adult literacy training programs,
Programs targeting persons with disabilities such as the Rock Creek Foundation and the Southern
Maryland Center for Living Independently For Everyone (L.I.F.E.) and
PCs to family support centers within the revitalization areas.
SMARTCO has donated over 10,00 personal computers and over 4,000 peripherals (printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, external CD drives and hard drives) in full operating condition to our customers.
