RESOLUTION NO. 99-02
This resolution provides
approval for a project to solicit the partnership of the Department of Housing
and Community Development of the State of Maryland in the SMARTCO Federal Automated
Systems Technology (FAST) Program.
SMARTCO has been providing a vehicle and mechanism for the transfer of excess
automated data and other high technology equipment from the Federal Government to
non-profit organizations in Maryland for
more than five years. This equipment is received, inspected, rebuilt, repaired
and issued to these organizations at no cost to the organizations.
The organizations include schools, abused persons shelters, libraries, community centers
and homeless training locations. In all, organizations across Southern Maryland including
Prince Georges County and Baltimore have benefited from the program. Calvert, Charles and
St. Mary's County have benefited directly as schools in all three counties have received and
are using this equipment including computers. All the work described has been
performed by volunteer labor and donations from the community. Contributions have been
provided by private industry and individuals both in materials and other resources.
IN particular a location to house the effort has been provided at no cost to SMARTCO.
The credits arranged through the Neighborhood Partership Program will insure the
continuation of these and other contributions from the community businesses and for the
communities' betterment.
It is resolved, by the Board of Directors of
SMARTCO, Inc., as follows:
WHEREAS SMARTCO, Inc.,
a duly registered not-for-profit corporation registered in Maryland and recognized as a 501(c)3 entity proposes
to undertake the project described above (the "Project"); and
WHEREAS, SMARTCO, Inc. has
applied to the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland for approval of the project
and an allocation of tax credits for business entities that contribute to the Project, under the Department's
Neighborhood Partnership Program, and
WHEREAS SMARTCO, Inc. approves the Project, now, therefore, be it
resolved that the Board of Directors as authorized and elected officers of SMARTCO, hereby expresses approval of the
Project, as described above.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the complete
Board of SMARTCO, Inc. on 1 August 1999, as an official act of the Board of Southern Maryland Applied Research and
Technology Consortium, Inc.
